What follows is a bloody, cartoonish descent into tyranny where financial gain is the only moral compass.
Ubu and his wife live in squalor, dreaming of wealth. When a coup d'état presents itself, Ubu murders the king (in a hilariously awkward stage direction involving a toilet brush or a fish). As he rules Poland, he becomes obsessed with a "Nobility Tax," forcing his citizens to pay or die.
