In the pantheon of sports video games, few titles enjoy the undying, fanatical devotion that surrounds . Released in 2007 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, NHL 09 was a revolution. It introduced the "Skill Stick" (right analog stick shooting/handling) and, most importantly, "Be A Pro" mode and online EA Sports Hockey League (EASHL) . It is widely considered the peak of the franchise’s simulation era.

This mod is controversial but brilliant. The Dark Era simulates hockey’s "Dead Puck" era (late 1990s to 2004) with unprecedented brutality.
